Basic HTML5 Template

HTML5 Template

Here’s a quick bare bones HTML5 template. I’ve included a quick explanation below, stating a few changes from an HTML4 page template vs. HTML5.

DOCTYPE

– In the past we needed to state which kind of doctype we were using, i.e. Strict, transitional, etc (see older doctypes).

– in HTML5 it’s already implied and you don’t need to specify this anymore. It’s completely valid as is.

Charset

– Before we needed to specify “extra” info like the http-equiv and the content.

– Now we’ve cut to the chase and you can use the bare minimum.

JavaScript

– Before you needed to specify the type.

– Now the type attribute is not necessary in HTML5.
